How Can I Transfer To a New Website Hosting Company?

Question: I have a website whose domain is hosted by Easy Host. I want to switch to a new website hosting company, but still keep my website address.
Also, I just recently switched from a PC to a Mac, so I would need a compatibe website hosting company as well. Any suggestions.
I’m looking for real answers by people who have either done website hosting transfers before or knows what I’m talking about…please.

Answer: To transfer from one hosting company to another, here are the steps:

1.) Make a complete copy of your website and databases.

There are several ways to copy the files and databases in your site, choose which one would be easier for you.
You can use your favorite FTP utility to download all files to your computer from your web host. For Dreamweaver users, use the GET command to copy all your files. If you are using Frontpage, use the import feature to make a complete copy of the old web site.

2.) Choose a new Web Hosting Company.

If you are looking for the right website hosting company, here is our suggestion. If you are looking for a website hosting company for your business, we suggest you go with Hostgator. Well, they are not totally free – you have to pay $0.01 (by entering the coupon code below at checkout). This coupon code is usable for any shared hosting and even the $24.95 Aluminum reseller hosting. We suggest you do not waste your time with any other unreliable website hosting company.

If you want a free domain from your website hosting company, then we suggest you try MyHosting. It is hard to find any negative MyHosting review so we believe they are the best because they give unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage, unlimited addon domains, Site builder and much more for such a low monthly price. You can get MyHosting for only $4.84/month.

3.) Transfer your domain name

Get in touch with the domain name registrar (place where you registered your domain name) and change the Domain Name Server (DNS) or Name Server information to your new hosts DNS information.
Don’t worry if your site is going to experience a downtime while your DNS record is being changed and propagated through the world’s WHOIS servers, this is normal. It will take about a day or 3 days for the process to be completed.
Maintain any existing services set up on your old domain name such as email forwarding, web pointing and website hosting until the transfer is complete to ensure continuity of your service.
You can check the progress of your domain name transfer by using a Domain Name Search facility such as Whois.net.

4.) Upload all files to your new Web Host.

When your domain name has been successfully transferred, upload the files to your new Web Host and rebuild the site.

5.) Test your web site.

Once the domain name and your web site files have been transferred, you should test that all services are working on the your new Host. If it’s working correctly, go ahead and cancel all your remaining services with your previous hosting service.

    I recommend Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html

    They’re the best:

    1. You get a free domain from them (actually 2 if you use the promo code, more about that later), or you can use one of these free domains to transfer your existing one to Dreamhost, and extend its’ registration for one more year, all for free of course.
    2. They have 500 GB of Disk Space and increasing
    3. 5TB (5000 GB) of Bandwidth and increasing
    4. You can use their huge Disk Space and host multiple sites on a single account.
    5. Their price is $119.40/year ($9.95/month if you pay yearly)
    6. Which is a pretty standard price but they currently have a promotion:
Use the Promo Code: PLUS (at sign up page) and get a $50 discount + 2 Free Domain Names
    7. This way you get them for $69.40/year ($5.78/month)

You just have to initiate your domain name transfer from the company you registered the domain with.

  1. No trackbacks yet.
